Magazine Cover Inspiration

I have looked through hundreds of music magazine front covers online, and out of all of them, this one was my favourite

Why?

Use of Text

My favourite part of this cover is the font used for "Lily Allen Takes on the World". It has a dramatic look to it, and the mismatched, messy feel matches Lily's make up, hair and oversized shirt. I also really like the use of circles for the headlines. This means that the words are easy to read, and stand out on top of the picture of Lily Allen. The words themselves have obviously been chosen to have impact. For example, words and phrases such as "farewell", "legendary" and "takes on the world" all sound quite dramatic, making the magazine seem like a must-read packed with exciting features.

Use of Colour

The contrasting colour scheme of red, black and white somehow works really well. The bright, clashing colours would make this magazine stand out on a shelf.

                                                     The Main Image

Lily Allen's eye contact with the camera makes it seem as if she is looking right at the reader, urging them to pick up the magazine. The black, white and red on Lilly's shirt also matches the colour scheme of the magazine, giving a feeling of consistency to the cover. The slightly high angle shot used seems to portray Lily as being in a low position, keeping in with the quote displayed which reads "I can't keep on living like this, it's doing my head in." If the magazine wanted to portray Lily as being in a position of confidence and power, I think they would have used a low angle shot.

                                                          The Layout

I like the layout of this magazine cover. It looks busy, but not overcrowded. The fact that some of the text is in bubbles, and some at the top and bottom, gives a feeling of variety to the cover. Although everything is tilted slightly to give a messy, careless feel, the cover is in fact very neat and straightforward.

Hopefully, I will be able to make my magazine look something like this!
